Electric Radiant Floor Heating
Electric radiant floor heating uses thin wires that circulate heat throughout your home under the floors. Different systems may use either wires laid in a serpentine pattern, or mats in which the wires are embedded.
The wires are connected to a lead that is run from the floor up through the wall to a thermostat that controls the heat. Different zones can be created, to heat specific rooms at different times or to different temperatures, and the zones can generally be controlled by a single thermostat.
Electric radiant heating is generally less expensive than hydronic radiant heating, and is easier to install.
Benefits of Electric Radiant Heating
- For spot heating (adding underfloor heating to specific rooms, rather than to a whole house), or small remodeling projects, electric heating is generally more affordable than hydronic heating.
- Electric heating does not raise the floor by a couple of inches, as hydronic heating does.
- Electric heating warms up faster than hydronic heating.
- Electric heating is estimated to be 20% to 40% more energy efficient than conventional heating systems
- Electric heating does not circulate allergens, dust, dirt, spores, or bacteria around your home.
- Your children, your pets, and your feet will thank you!
